In the first Workshop session, we were given an induction to many machines that may be important during the creation of our artefact, including:
Band saw
Bobbin sander
Disc sander
Belt sander
We were also given PPE (incl. foam earplugs, goggles, steel-toed boots).
We began our workshop sessions by assembling a wooden jewelry box with the 'NTU' emblem atop it. We first used the band saw to cut the shield portion of the lid, before using the disc and bobbin sanders to smooth this shape out.
After assembling the box with a hammer and nails, we used the belt sander to smooth out any edges that were particularly rough before finishing off the piece with fine-grit sandpaper.
Below is my completed box: I plan to decorate the sides with paintings, hence the sketches.

Overall, I found this session exciting and helpful, as someone who does not have much experience in workshops. I want to grow my confidence, particularly when using the band saw and bobbin sander.
