From September 19th to October 14th, I was introduced to the Design for Film and TV course at Nottingham Trent University, immediately realising that I had made the right decision by specialising into production design.
The course induction consisted of introductions to my lecturers and course leaders, consisting of Huw Feather (Contextual Studies), Stelios Polychronakis (Technical support + 2nd/3rd year), Duncan Howell (2nd + 3rd year) and Kerry Bradley (1st year course leader). It's been incredibly surreal for me to be in an environment where course leaders are actively honing their own skills, with their passion for the film and TV industry being apparent! To be candid, my own feelings towards the industry are ones of love and appreciation, yet as a neurodivergent woman I often feel that isn't reciprocated. That's something I plan to either work around or try to change; regardless, I feel accommodated towards and ready to hone my skills.
The first project introduced to the course, ('Design for Film and Television') is the 'BBC3 Light Entertainment Set'. This allows the course to hone skills such as model-making, technical drawing, preliminary research and finding our own creative style. More information on my ideas and development for BBC3 can be found in this blog post.
Overall, my course content includes theoretical film alongside practical set design, a perfect blend of my existing Film Studies A-level knowledge and my love for art and design.
Key Areas I want to explore are:
- Developing technical drawing
- Model-making
- Practical Skills (seen in my skills passport: Workshop)
