Contextual Studies and Film Theory is an element of industry knowledge I am already familiar with, having studied and achieved an A* in A-level Film Studies. It's a subject that I care deeply about, as someone interested in the expression of social issues and identities in film.
Alongside writing weekly reviews on content covered in Contextual Studies, I plan to expand my own film viewing through reviews where I analyse not only the production design and content of franchise films, but arthouse or historically significant TV and Film.
The first film covered in Contextual Studies is 'A Personal Journey with Martin Scorsese Through American Movies', a documentary I had not previously heard of but was enthralled by as an insight into the mind of a leader of American Film and conservation.
Overall, I am excited and intrigued not only by the film content and specified reading discussed in Contextual Studies, but also the 1,500 word personal essay at the end of the year, the content of which is up to personal choice! I previously completed a 4000 word essay on the history of societal trauma in paintings and sculpture during my A-Level exams, and have found writing about the arts (including TV and Film) is something I find invigorating. Therefore, I will also regularly update my portfolio website with the development of my Y1 personal essay.
